The volume of committed capital has reached US$ 110 billion, with an average annual growth rate of approximately 50% since 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This progress is significant because it distinguishes between two very different groups:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"line-height:1.8\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>projects still based on intentions and preliminary studies;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>projects that already have committed capital, contracts, and execution underway.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The industry, therefore, remains far from the scale needed to meet global decarbonization targets, but it already has a solid foundation of projects under development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is a final investment decision?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The <strong>final investment decision<\/strong>, known by the acronym FID \u2014 <em>Final Investment Decision<\/em> \u2014 is the point at which the stakeholders responsible for a project formally authorize its execution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is at this stage that financial resources are effectively allocated to equipment procurement, engineering services, plant construction, and the execution of the contracts required for operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An investment announcement does not necessarily mean that a facility will be built. The FID is the milestone that indicates a project has met the necessary conditions to move beyond the planning stage and proceed to implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this reason, the number of projects that have reached FID provides a more reliable view of market maturity than the total number of announced projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Does the cancellation of projects indicate a slowdown in the sector?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Not necessarily. The approximately 50 project cancellations recorded over the past 18 months represent about 3% of the more than 1,700 projects announced globally since 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of the cancellations occurred among renewable projects that were still in the early stages of development. At the same time, committed investment in more mature initiatives continued to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This trend reflects a more rigorous selection of the project pipeline. Projects that can demonstrate demand, competitiveness, financing, and regulatory support are moving forward, while initiatives with weaker commercial fundamentals are being postponed or canceled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This does not eliminate the industry's challenges. High interest rates, equipment costs, difficulties in securing offtake agreements, and regulatory delays continue to put pressure on project viability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The most accurate interpretation, therefore, is neither unrestricted growth nor a sector collapse, but rather <strong>industrial consolidation<\/strong>: fewer speculative announcements and a greater concentration of capital in projects that are ready for execution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which regions are leading clean hydrogen investments?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">China leads in committed capital, with approximately <strong>US$ 33 billion<\/strong>, and accounts for more than half of the world's committed renewable hydrogen production capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">North America ranks second, with <strong>US$ 23 billion<\/strong>, and also accounts for approximately 85% of global low-carbon hydrogen production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Europe ranks third, with <strong>US$ 19 billion in committed investments<\/strong>, but could represent nearly two-thirds of the expected global demand by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This distribution shows that production and consumption will not necessarily be concentrated in the same regions. Countries with abundant renewable energy may specialize in production, while industrialized and importing regions are expected to account for a significant share of demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the global committed capacity for clean hydrogen?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Mature projects account for more than <strong>6 million tonnes per year of committed capacity<\/strong>, with approximately 1 million tonnes already in operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking delays and cancellations into account, the current project pipeline could support between 9 million and 14 million tonnes per year by 2030. However, achieving this will require converting potential demand into actual contracts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, approximately 3.6 million tonnes per year are already backed by binding offtake agreements. With greater regulatory clarity in the European Union, the United States, Japan, and South Korea, an additional 8 million tonnes per year of demand could materialize by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main challenge of the next phase, therefore, will not be limited to expanding production capacity. It will be securing buyers willing to enter into long-term contracts for hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and low-emission fertilizers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the current status of green hydrogen projects in Brazil?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the updated project portfolio of the Brazilian Green Hydrogen Industry Association, the large-scale projects with an expected FID in 2026 represent:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"line-height:1.8\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>more than R$ 53 billion in investments<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>5.42 GW of combined electrolysis capacity<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>production primarily focused on hydrogen and green ammonia;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an initial concentration at the Pec\u00e9m Industrial and Port Complex, in Cear\u00e1.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The four projects presented by the association for this phase are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Casa dos Ventos<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The project includes an investment of approximately <strong>R$ 12 billion<\/strong> and <strong>1.2 GW<\/strong> of electrolysis capacity, dedicated to the production of green ammonia at the Pec\u00e9m Industrial and Port Complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fortescue<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">With an estimated investment of <strong>R$ 18 billion<\/strong>, the project includes <strong>1.2 GW of electrolysis capacity<\/strong> and an estimated annual production of 170,000 tonnes of green hydrogen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FRV<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The initiative includes an investment of approximately <strong>R$ 6 billion<\/strong>, <strong>500 MW of electrolysis capacity<\/strong>, and an estimated annual production of 400,000 tonnes of green ammonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Qair<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The Libert\u00e9 and Fraternit\u00e9 projects represent approximately <strong>R$ 17.7 billion in investments<\/strong>, with a combined <strong>2.52 GW of electrolysis capacity<\/strong> and the production of hydrogen, ammonia, and oxygen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The progress of these projects will depend not only on engineering and financing, but also on access to the power grid, regulatory certainty, and contracts capable of supporting demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which products are expected to lead the Brazilian market?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Brazil's first large-scale projects are primarily focused on four products:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"line-height:1.8\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>green hydrogen;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>green ammonia;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>low-emission methanol;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>low-carbon nitrogen fertilizers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This choice is no coincidence. Derivatives such as ammonia and methanol are easier to store and transport than pure hydrogen, while also benefiting from established industrial applications and international markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fertilizers also represent a strategic opportunity for Brazil, as they can reduce the country's dependence on imported inputs and lower the emissions associated with agricultural production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why could Uberaba become a green hydrogen hub?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Uberaba is beginning to attract projects focused on both hydrogen derivatives production and equipment manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Atlas Agro plans to invest approximately <strong>R$ 6 billion<\/strong> in a facility with <strong>300 MW of electrolysis capacity<\/strong> and an estimated annual production of 530,000 tonnes of nitrogen fertilizers. According to the latest ABIHV update, the project's FID is expected in 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">At the same time, Guofuhee announced an investment of <strong>R$ 202 million<\/strong> to establish an industrial facility in Industrial District III of Uberaba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project will occupy an area of approximately 95,700 square meters and includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"line-height:1.8\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>estimated annual revenue of R$ 420 million;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>150 direct jobs expected;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an estimated 500 indirect jobs;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>construction scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The company began its operations in Brazil in April 2024, with headquarters in S\u00e3o Paulo, and operates in the development and manufacturing of equipment for hydrogen generation, storage, transportation, and refueling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The proximity between a future green fertilizer plant and an equipment manufacturer could encourage the development of a local industrial ecosystem. This clustering is important because it brings suppliers, buyers, skilled professionals, and production infrastructure closer together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the main obstacle to green hydrogen in Brazil?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Regulation remains one of the sector's main challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, Brazil approved the Legal Framework for Low-Carbon Hydrogen, the Special Incentive Regime for Low-Carbon Hydrogen Production (Rehidro), and the Low-Carbon Hydrogen Development Program (PHBC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The PHBC provides for <strong>R$ 18.3 billion in tax credits<\/strong>, aimed at reducing the price gap between low-carbon hydrogen and conventional alternatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of early July 2026, the sector was still awaiting the publication of the decree that will define key aspects such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"line-height:1.8\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>access to tax incentives;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>emissions certification;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>carbon footprint calculation;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the responsibilities of regulatory authorities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>local content requirements;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the operation of project selection mechanisms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to regulatory issues, industry executives have pointed to limitations in transmission infrastructure and challenges related to grid connection. Industrial-scale electrolysis projects require large amounts of electricity, making access to the power grid a critical condition for reaching FID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What can we expect from the clean hydrogen market?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The global market is moving from a phase dominated by announcements to a more selective stage focused on execution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The increase in committed capital shows that a first generation of projects is moving forward. At the same time, project cancellations, revised timelines, and difficulties in securing demand indicate that growth will not be automatic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Brazil, three developments deserve close attention:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"line-height:1.8\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Final investment decisions:<\/strong> projects will need to secure financing, buyers, and access to energy;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Regulation:<\/strong> the implementation of Rehidro and the PHBC will be crucial to narrowing the cost gap between low-carbon hydrogen and fossil-based alternatives;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Development of the domestic supply chain:<\/strong> equipment manufacturers and local suppliers can increase competitiveness and reduce dependence on imports.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The combination of large-scale production projects, industrial demand, and local equipment manufacturing gives Brazil the opportunity to build a complete hydrogen value chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brazil's potential is real.
