And it is precisely this advantage that places it among the leaders of the global energy transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The production of green hydrogen, especially through water electrolysis, has attracted attention as a solution for sectors that have struggled to decarbonize, such as mining, steelmaking, and industrial thermal processes. Essentially, they separate hydrogen (H\u2082) from oxygen (O\u2082) using electricity. If this electricity comes from a renewable source, such as solar or wind, the result is so-called green hydrogen. In other words, it emits no carbon emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The main types of electrolyzers today:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Alkaline<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Efficiency between 62% and 82%;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They last a long time: more than 60 thousand hours of operation;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They cost less to operate;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are widely used in large-scale industrial applications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PEM (with proton exchange membrane)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Efficiency of 70% to 80%;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They adapt quickly to load variations;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They work well where more control and precision are needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">National innovation with shrimp shells and science<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most interesting innovations comes from Cear\u00e1, specifically from the Federal University of Cear\u00e1 (UFC). There, physicist Santino Loruan developed a membrane made from chitosan, a biopolymer extracted from shrimp and crab shells \u2014 a plentiful and often discarded material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This membrane replaces imported synthetic components and has several advantages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It makes the process cheaper by using fishing waste;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is biodegradable, which makes it more sustainable;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is Brazilian, which helps to reduce external dependence;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It has already been patented and can be licensed by companies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:49px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"429\" height=\"240\" src=\"https:\/\/guofuhee.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2178\" style=\"width:528px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/guofuhee.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image.png 429w, https:\/\/guofuhee.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image-300x168.png 300w, https:\/\/guofuhee.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image-18x10.png 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 429px) 100vw, 429px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:35px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where it's all happening: hubs and projects across Brazil<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cear\u00e1: national reference<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The state of Cear\u00e1 has become one of the main hubs for green hydrogen in the country. In the Port of Pec\u00e9m alone, R$110.6 billion in investments have already been announced. Some highlights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Fortescue:<\/strong> R$17.5 billion for a 1.2 GW plant (which could reach 2.1 GW)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Casa dos Ventos: <\/strong>Will invest US$900 million in its own plant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>EDP Brazil:<\/strong> The first certified production has started at the Pec\u00e9m Thermoelectric Complex<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:31px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other states are also moving<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Pernambuco:<\/strong> White Martins set up the first certified plant in South America, in Suape \u2014 producing 156 tons per year with a high degree of purity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bahia:<\/strong> Unigel has put into operation the country's first green hydrogen and ammonia plant, with four electrolyzers totaling 60 MW.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Minas Gerais:<\/strong> UNIFEI created a research center, while Atlas Agro is developing a project in Uberaba.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:39px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Laws and incentives: a push to grow faster<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Law No. 14,948\/2024 <\/strong>created the legal framework for low-emission hydrogen. It also provides <strong>R$18.3 billion in incentives through 2032<\/strong>. Here are some key points:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Emissions limit: up to 7 kg CO\u2082eq per kg of hydrogen by 2030<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creation of SBCH\u2082 (Brazilian Hydrogen Certification System)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rehidro: special incentive regime<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Suspension of PIS\/Pasep and Cofins for five years<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:41px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Economic Outlook: The Future Is Already Being Built<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Currently, the country has accumulated<strong> R$454 billion in investments<\/strong>, distributed across 111 projects and with a <strong>total capacity of 43 GW<\/strong>.
